We’ve Arrived in Japan

Well, we have finally arrived in Japan and it is quite a different world.....there is much more stuff.  Buildings as far as the eye can see but everything looks super clean.

We opted for a rather posh hotel for the night before our walk as accommodations should be very traditional from here on out...WIFI....not readily available either!

Love the high tech toilets - check out the control panel on the wall!

Our light load of luggage waiting for the train.

Hello Kitty Train!  She seems to be everywhere here!

Having arrived in the small fishing village of Yuasa for our first night, we had a short walk from the train station to our very traditional Japanese Inn (Ryokan).  Along the way we passed a lot of very old traditional houses and this Temple.  Since we arrived in the village early, we opted to tour the town and then continue on for a short hike over the Itoga Pass and onto the the Itoga Oji, a shrine dating back before 1100.  We then went on to the Itoga Inari Shrine, the Tokushoji Temple and then to the train station in Kii-Miyahara for a quick train ride back to Yuasa.  The pictures below are along our route for the day.

Don standing by large bell gong at Tokushoji Temple.  Legend has it that it was founded for Chujo-hime, a Japanese princess often likened to the Japanese Cinderella.  She is famous for inventing embroidery.
